ANONYMOUS

Another great and obscure 90's band. Anonymous was a short-lived emo\hardcore band from Bahlehem, PA. Everybody knows Anonymous for an Anasarca split, but hope you will be a bit surprised - this band released a 7'' and a discography CD, inluding some brand new recordings.

Anonymous were Sean Terwilligher (guitar/vox), Christian Schmitt (guitar /vox), Aaron Edge (bass/ vox), David Wagenschutz (drums full length CD), Tony Lipovsky. (Drums past members - Scott Golley, Christine Ashurst Jason Rinker, Rocco Corona).

Well, I was very lucky to find bands' myspace page. This is a story, told by one of Anonymous members:

"Anonymous started in the basement of the Mammy House on the south side of Bethlehem, PA in the spring of 1993. The original line up included Bill (drums), Mark (guit), Steve (bass), Sean (guit) and Christian on vox. The line up wrote a few songs together, but only eventually kept "Monday", an anti-imperialist response to the Columbus Day celebration in the US. A few short practices later and that line up had completely changed. Rocky came on board for bass duties, and Sean decided to teach Christian how to play the guitar due to Mark dropping off. Bill lasted on drums for a few more months until he was replaced by Jason. The goals of the band and its political undertones were shared between Sean and Christian, and the two set out to write as many songs together as they could until they were satisfied with a permanant line up. This would never happen in the entire life of the band. It would always be Sean and Christian as Anonymous (by this point in 1994 they had a name and it stuck) In the spring of 1994 the two moved with Stephanie (Sean's now wife) to Philadelphia. As the three settled into a new city with new oppourtunity, Sean and Christian set out in search of a drummer and bass player. it wouldn't be long until the two cadidates would show up at Christians door at his south Philadelphia home where the band practiced. Dave Wagenschutz recently left NJ and his former band Lifetime (Jade Tree) moved into the house with Christian on Federal St, and moved in the position as drummer. Dave would become their first solid drummer in two years. Not long afterward, Dave would invite a local Philadelphia art student from Virginia to sit in on practice. Aaron "Edge" Connell was in as the new bass player. The four went on to record their debut 7" with Geoff Turner (3, Grey Matter, Dischord) at WGNS studios in Washington DC, and the three song 7' was put out on FOE records by long time friend Frank Pearn Jr.in the spring of 1995. Over the summer of 1995 Anonymous played all over the NE with bands like Lifetime, Shades Apart, Citizen Fish, Ensign (their first show), Chokehold , Damnation AD and Boy Sets Fire. In the summer of 1995 they played a bunch of shows with Washington DC's Anasarca (Ebullition) and the two bands became friends and decided to put out a split 7" on Planeria Records (nick from Anasarca's label) distro'd by Ebulition (HeartAttack Zine). The first pressing sold out rather quickly and is hard to find (even for us). Althought the summer seemed sucessful, after a short four day tour in the fall of 1995, Dave decided he was going to leave the band to do other things (like tour as the drummer for the newly formed Ink and Dagger) Aaron felt the loss of the momentum after Dave left, and also had to focus on graduating from graphic design school. Aaron, Christian and Sean would not practice again until the early spring of 1996, when the three decided to get together and finally record a full length CD. Easily Unamused was recorded in a week working from 11 pm till 6 am for 7 days. Recording engineer Brian McTear took on the project at his newly built (and still then under consrtuction) studio in Manyunk PA. Former band mate and Lehigh Valley music scene veteran (he started playing in bands at 13,Robosphere, Jessica, Klines Island) Tony Lipovsky would learn the bands menu in a few weeks and the four set forth to bang out 14 tracks (including some hidden tracks entirely done by Aaron) and one song entirely composed by Tony on the spot. Easily Unamused would be picked up and put out by local PA label Double Decker Records. One track would eventually end up on Kill the Messenger Comp and another on the second Lehigh Valley FOE comp This is the Lehigh Valley. This line up would play one show opening a Free Leonard Peltier benefit with Lifetime and Atom and His Package (I think it was Atom's first show). But that would be it for good for Aaron. He shortly afterward relocated to Seattle, WA (eventually to be joined by Christian in 1998 to form Himsa(Revalation, Prosthetic) with ex Trial (Equal Vision)) Anonymous played their last three shows in the summer of 1998 with Christine Ashurst on bass, and Scott Golley (also ex Lifetime drummer on Hello Bastards and Jersey's Best) on drums. I think that's it. Sean Terwilligher lives back in the Lehigh Valley with Steph and concocts wonderful hardcore/trance/drum and bass under the psydonym Loop Surgeon, Christian lives in Seattle with his wife and dog, and has played in Himsa, The November Group, and Search Party Music. Aaron Edge has been in way too many bands since then to list here but most recently Grievous, I think, check em out on myspace. Dave Wagenshutz went on to play in Ink and Dagger, Kid Dynamite, Good Ridance, and currently in Paint it Black (Jade Tree) Tony started Sound Of Reverse and hasn't been heard from in years, but i hear he is well. This is our happy ending. Bahbye".
